In December 2025, Science Center for Development – Assistive Technology and Accessibility in Brazilian Sign Language (CCD-TAAL) participated in Virada Inclusiva 2025 (Inclusive Turn 2025), an initiative promoted by the Government of the State of São Paulo through the São Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (SEDPcD), a partner institution of the Center.

At Unicamp, the event took place from December 1 to 4 and was coordinated by the Rector’s Office and the Accessibility Advisory Committee (CAA) of the Executive Directorate for Human Rights (DEDH). The program brought together different units and initiatives across the University to promote accessibility, inclusion, and the rights of persons with disabilities.

CCD-TAAL hosted two activities as part of the program. The first was the official opening ceremony, which brought together authorities and representatives from the participating institutions, including Unicamp Rector Paulo Cesar Montagner; São Paulo State Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Marcos da Costa; Associate Director of FEEC/Unicamp Professor Dr. Bruno Masiero; Professor Dr. Wagner Caradori do Amaral, representing FAPESP; and Professor Dr. José Mario De Martino, Lead Researcher of the CCD-TAAL.

The second activity, entitled “Come Meet Clara and Chat with Our Avatar in Libras!”, introduced the public to one of the technologies developed at the Center. Held in the auditorium of the High-Performance Computing and 3D Scientific Visualization Laboratory (Galileu/Unicamp), where CCD-TAAL is based, the activity gave participants the opportunity to meet and interact with Clara, a signing 3D avatar developed to support research and accessibility applications involving Brazilian Sign Language. Participants were also invited to tour the laboratory and learn more about the Center’s research infrastructure and ongoing projects.

Throughout the activities hosted by CCD-TAAL, simultaneous interpretation in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) was provided by the Center’s team of sign language interpreters and translators.

The 2025 edition of Virada Inclusiva held special significance as it celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Brazilian Inclusion Act (LBI) under the theme “The Right to Be, to Live, and to Take the Lead”,  reaffirming the commitment to building a more accessible, inclusive, and participatory society.

Below are some highlights from CCD-TAAL’s participation in Virada Inclusiva 2025.
