Welcome to the Center for Science for Development – Assistive Technology and Accessibility in Brazilian Sign Language (CCD-TAAL).

CCD-TAAL brings together multidisciplinary research and technological innovation to help break down communication barriers between Deaf and hearing communities. Our work is rooted in the recognition of Deaf people as members of a linguistic minority, with Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as their natural language, living in a society where spoken and written Portuguese predominates.

At the heart of our research is the development of advanced technologies for automatic translation between Libras and Portuguese. By combining recent advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, we seek to create innovative solutions that foster communication, accessibility, and inclusion.

CCD-TAAL is funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) under grant no. 2024/00914-7.
